Check out which actress landed the role Norma Bates - the control freak mom of future serial killer Norman - on A&E's Bates Motel.
Last March, we reported that former Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse had joined A&E's six-episode TV series prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, Bates Motel. Cuse has been overseeing the show, which focuses on young Norman Bates' relationship with his oh-so-domineering mother, Norma.
We don't know how far backward this series will go, but perhaps the actress cast as the mother will clue us in on how old Norman might be. EW.com is reporting that Vera Farmiga (The Departed) has landed the role of Mama Bates - pivotal role that obviously has a huge part in Norman eventually becoming a serial killer. Although the character description doesn't really play into that: "Mother of young Norman Bates. She’s complicated, passionate, and compelling, Norma Louise is a smart, multidimensional character who is always capable of surprising us.”
“[Farmiga] is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her join our project,” Cuse told EW.
The role of Norman Bates has yet to be cast.
