As genre shows like AMC's The Walking Dead and FX's American Horror Story continue to earn strong ratings, you can expect more cable networks to venture into horror, and early next year, it's A&E's turn. As reported earlier this year, Bates Motel is a prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho that explores an adolescent Norman Bates' relationship with his mother. The show -- will, despite its prequel status, is set in the present day -- will also apparently delve into the lives of the nearby townsfolk, who have dark secrets of their own.
Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) will star as Norman, and Vera Farmiga (Orphan) will play his mom (see the first photo to the right). Also appearing -- and perhaps giving some insight into the plot lines -- are Max Thieriot (House at the End of the Street) as Norman's older brother and Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Olivia Cooke as Norman's friends/classmates. There's no official date yet for Bates Motel to air, but its 10-episode season will begin sometime in the spring.
