The former X-Files star joins the cast of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal for her first network TV gig in over a decade.
EW.com is reporting that Bryan Fuller's Hannibal, about the crime-solving relationship between iconic killer Hannibal Lecter and FBI profiler Will Graham (as established in Thomas Harris' novel, Red Dragon), has cast former X-Files star Gillian Anderson for a multi-episode arc.
Joining a cast that already boasts Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) as Lecter, Hugh Dancy (The Big C) as Graham, Laurence Fishburne as Crawford, Scott Thompson (The Kids in the Hall), Molly Shannon (SNL), Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls) and Gina Torres (Firefly), Anderson will play Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier - Lecter's own therapist.
Fuller to EW: "Every therapist needs their own head examined and we are ecstatic that Gillian Anderson has chosen Hannibal to mark her return to American television after 10 years to portray Dr. Lecter’s personal psychiatrist. Her intelligence and sophistication, not to mention her pedigree of ground-breaking TV, make her the perfect actress to match wits and psychological manipulations with one of the greatest villains of pop culture. I couldn’t be more excited.”
