  • Michonne Battles the Walking Dead at McFarlane Toys

McFarlane offers the bloodiest Walking Dead collectible of them all.

It's rare to see a independent comic book find the level of success The Walking Dead is enjoying lately. Walking Dead #100 was the highest-selling single issue of last year, and the TV adaptation on AMC continues to be one of the most watched shows on cable. And there's the growing list of video game adaptations. And for fans who don't get enough zombie drama from these sources, there's also the recent series of action figures from McFarlane Toys.

But what if you're type of collector who prefers high-end statues to mass-market figures? McFarlane now has that demographic covered too. Today, MTV Geek debuted McFarlane's first Walking Dead statue. This statue features not Rick Grimes, but everyone's favorite katana-wielding killer, Michonne.

More of a diorama than a normal statue, this piece depicts Michonne battling a pair of undead walkers. The statue is designed to be displayed at any angle. Walking Dead creator Robert Kikrman helped design the piece, and he told MTV Geek that it represents an "intensified" take on Michonne. “Fans are definitely going to recognize her and the iconic aspects of that character, but I think there’s a lot of room to push the envelope and make things a bit more heightened, a bit more awesome.”

Kirkman also said, “Michonne is a very cool character – she’s definitely the most action-oriented character from the series, and I really liked the idea of letting the McFarlane team run wild, and do their own take on Michonne, something that wasn’t necessarily completely accurate with the way Michonne exists – having two swords, and just going at it and doing something that’s a lot more over-the-top than what we usually do with 'The Walking Dead.' And they turned it into a really cool statue.” He also hinted that future Walking Dead statues are a possibility, naming characters like Rick, Negan, and Tyrese as potential candidates.

This statue measures about 14.5 inches tall and will be priced at $295. Much like McFarlane's recent Curse of the Spawn statue, the piece can only be ordered online direct from the Spawn Store. Pre-orders will begin at 12pm EST on February 11th. With a limited run of 1500 pieces, it might be a good idea to reserve yours once pre-orders open.
