The '50s sci fi/adventure series Thunderbirds is getting a huge reboot sans the marionettes that made the series famous. Before you throw a chair out the window, hear this — the puppets are being replaced by CG models created by Weta.
Deadline broke the news that ITV studios is partnering with Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop (!I!) to revive these characters. The puppets will be a mix of CG animation and live-action model sets (think the trolls in The Hobbit). Apparently the style will pay homage to Gerry Anderson's original series. It's all very interesting.
The new series will air on ITV and CITV in the UK in 2015.
