  • Justin Lin To Develop Bruce Lee TV Project

Fast and Furious franchise director Justin Lin has teamed up with Perfect Storm Entertainment, Bruno Wu, and Bruce Lee Enterprises to develop a TV series based on an idea that legendary Martial artist Bruce Lee came up with. In fact, Lee wrote it.

There are no details on what the series will be about, but the plan is to make it an hour-long show. According to Deadline, this is a passion project for Lin, and he will most likely direct the pilot episode. I think it's cool that some of Lee's old projects will actually get made! It will be interesting to see what this series ends up being.

A few years ago we reported on another unproduced Bruce Lee project that was going to be adapted into a film called The Silent Flute. Since then I haven't heard anything about it. I doubt that this new series has anything in common with that, but it would be cool if it did.

Lee wrote the script with James Coburn, and it centered on martial artist rebel named Cord who embarks on a quest for the Book of Enlightenment, which is kept by the mysterious Zetan. He must pass various trials along the way that educate him in Zen philosophy. Among the characters that he runs across are a blind flute-player, a monkey chieftain, a death character, and the leader of a gypsy tribe (all played by David Carradine), who acts as a reluctant mentor to Cord. Some trials involve combat, while others involve riddles or encounters with unusual characters, such as a man who has been standing in a barrel of oil for 10 years in an attempt to remove the lower half of his body so he is no longer distracted by his genitals. Cord successfully passes all trials and is able to view the Book of Enlightenment. He discovers that each page in the book is a mirror, showing him that the secret to enlightenment and all knowledge is already within himself. He then returns to the outside world to himself become a mentor for later seekers.
