  • Comic-Con: Arrow To Explore The Hero's Journey - Plus, the Season 2 Trailer!

Season one of The CW's Arrow ended on a heavy note. Starling City is in ruins, Tommy is dead, and Oliver's left to sort through the wreckage. Literally. The cast and executive producers came to Comic-Con to discuss the road ahead. Actors Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, and Colton Haynes joined executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim to talk about the future.

Season two will take a five month jump into the future. The season premiere is titled “City of Heroes,” and it really sets the tone for the season. Andrew Kreisberg said, “It's about Oliver becoming a hero. He's going from becoming Arrow [or the Hood] last season to becoming Green Arrow this season.” He continued, “As bad as Starling City was in season one, in season two it's even worse. It's not about crossing names off a list anymore... The city needs a hero, it needs a symbol of hope.” Oliver's willing to wear that mantle, and he won't be the only good guy.

Oliver was seriously affected by Tommy's death. His best friend died thinking he's a murderer and he's not okay with that. Stephen Amell discussed how the event will trigger a change. “Everything that happens - not just in season two but through the course of the series - is meant to honor Colin Donnell's character. Every decision Oliver makes anywhere in his life... is in consideration of Tommy going forward.” He's done with being the Hood.

The season two trailer shown at the panel reinforced that. Oliver has stepped in to run Queen Consolidated, and he tells Felicity and Diggle he didn't return to Starling City to be the vigilante again. Other people face change, too. Detective Lance is back in uniform on the streets. Laurel has to deal with the loss of Tommy. And though it wasn't shown in the teaser, Kreisberg said Thea will be running Oliver's nightclub.

More characters from DC comics will make appearances, including Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev. The clip also showed a hint of Black Canary's moves, and she kicks butt. Roy doesn't know what to make of her. It was announced earlier this week that actor Caity Lotz would be stepping into the Canary boots (and fishnets?) and for those wondering about Laurel, Kreisberg said everything is not as it appears to be. “One of the things we're doing this season is telling the beginning of the Black Canary story.” He went on to explain that she'll be introduced the same way the Green Arrow and others have been. The first Green Arrow we saw wasn't Oliver, it was Yao Fei – so this is just the beginning.

Deadshot will be back, and the Suicide Squad will come into the picture. Michael Jai White is coming to the show as Bronze Tiger, and he'll be involved in the Squad and partnering with China White. Kevin Alejandro will be playing Sebastian Blood (an inspiration from Brother Blood from the New Teen Titans).

Whether Roy becomes Speedy wasn't discussed, but Colton Haynes said Roy wants it to happen. “In a way season two can be an island for Roy like it [the actual island] was for Oliver. I think he's going to have to be knocked down a few pegs by people who know what they're doing.”

Season two of Arrow premieres on October 9th.
