Continuing Angela's conversation with Price, she demands revenge even though he tries to talk her out of it; two Dark Army agents show up and kill Angela, leaving Price enraged. With the move of Whiterose's project taking two months she gives Elliot until the end of December to live, sending him a picture of Angela's body as a warning. In mid-December, Tyrell has become sullen and bored at the CTO puppet though E Corp sees him as a hero. Dominique has moved in with her mother and become very paranoid; her mother's new friend Janice is her true Dark Army handler, warning her to return to work to clean up Santiago's mess. Elliot and Mr. Robot work together to blackmail shady lawyer Freddie and through him get information that Whiterose uses Cyprus National Bank and the name John Garcin. Freddie kills himself when he realizes the Dark Army is after him. Darlene has fallen into addiction over guilt about Angela's disappearance (Elliot cannot bring himself to show her the photo) and has a bender and breakdown in Angela's apartment. Though Mr. Robot is worried about Elliot, their investigation into John Garcin is a trap. Elliot is dragged away and injected by three men, thinking he is about to die. They revive him and Phillip Price reveals himself.

Price returns Elliot to his workstation, where the two work out a plan to hack a small group that funds the Dark Army known as Deus; which Zhang had built globally for decades. Price knows of former E Corp employee, Susan Jacobs' Dark Army ties before her disappearance, hoping to find her and get to the Deus group's money through her. Elliot only has eight days to live until the project is moved. Elliot gets a call from Darlene saying that their mother has died. Dominique lies to the FBI about what happened to Santiago, only for her interrogator to be killed in a faux suicide by Janice soon after. Elliot and Darlene find that their mother owned a safety deposit box, only to find that the bank that possessed it disposed of it before her death. She admits she is really grieving for Angela and she and Elliot listen to an audio recording with Angela from their childhoods. Price tells Zhang that he is resigning from E Corp and thus cutting ties with the Dark Army, which will force the Deus group to meet in person to choose his successor, enraging Zhang. After the funeral, Darlene confesses to Elliot that she killed Susan Jacobs, joins him against Whiterose, and thanks him for taking care of Vera, who has returned. Elliot argues with Mr. Robot, who denies any involvement with Vera. Inside Elliot's mind, his mother tells a younger version of himself to wait for 'the other one'.

On Christmas Eve, Wang Shu advises Zhang to call off the Deus group meeting. He considers, but changes his mind and sets the meeting for the next day. Zhang recalls his former lover Chen committing suicide after his forced marriage, despairing that their country does not welcome their love. He devises a plan to make Tyrell CEO of E Corp and use him as a pawn. Elliot approaches Krista on the street to tell her he is doing better, but she pushes him away out of fear. Elliot and Darlene have an argument about the plan. Elliot and Mr. Robot begin hacking Cyprus Bank employee Olivia Cortez. They find her in a bar, and Mr. Robot buys her a drink. They talk about their families before Elliot kisses her and she takes him home. Vera, now working in a butcher shop while simultaneously smuggling drugs in meat, has an informant keeping tabs on Elliot. He shoots his unreliable informant after he is delivered a picture of Elliot and Krista. While Olivia sleeps, Elliot gets a passcode he needs and sends it to Darlene. She comes to him and opens up about her issues with drugs and self harm. On their way to Allsafe, Elliot mentions to Mr. Robot that they are being followed by a white van. Elliot goes home and finds Tyrell has broken into his apartment. Before Elliot can warn him that the Dark Army is likely listening to them, Tyrell reveals that he will be the CEO of E Corp, and how his position will let them take the Dark Army down.

SPOILER ALERT: Tyrell is able to hit the Dark Army agent in the head. Taking the van to a gas station in the middle of nowhere to get supplies to burn it, they return to find it and the agent gone. Walking in a forest takes them in a giant circle. With Tyrell and Elliot agreeing they cannot start over or get out, Tyrell wants to give up when Elliot admits he never cared about him. Elliot is able to bond with Tyrell as one of the only people that may like Elliot, admitting he keeps going for Darlene's sake; wanting to warn her before the Dark Army kills him. Darlene realizes Olivia's access isn't enough and they need to hack Cyprus National Bank directly. Seeing Elliot's apartment broken into causes Darlene to fear Elliot is dead. Darlene tries to steal a car and has to give a ride to Tobias, a volunteer dressed as Santa for a children's hospital. Thinking he has suicidal idealization she tries to talk him out of it, only to realize she misunderstood and admits all she has left is her brother who she still loves despite be furious at him. In her own apartment, Dominique has cyber sex and invites the other woman over. The woman appears in a Dark Army mask, drowning Dominique in a bathtub, telling Dominique to accept she'll never be free. Dominique wakes up from the nightmare and seems to get her determination back. Elliot, Tyrell and Mr. Robot find the van after it hit a deer; the Dark Army agent shoots at them before killing himself. Tyrell is hit in the stomach, telling Elliot to finish it and take care of Whiterose. A dying Tyrell finds a light in the forest as things fade to white.
