Is a new Dead Island on the way? According to a story on IGN Germany sources close to developer Yager say the company has been signed to work on a sequel to the tropical zombie action game.
Yager Development, which is currently finishing up on Spec Ops: The Line for 2K Games, has posted ads for a lead artist and art director to begin work after the completion of Spec Ops.
GN Germany’s story says, “We have learned from reliable sources close to Yager, the Berlin-based developer studio for Spec Ops: The Line, that the company is headed for more tropical climes, and that its next project could well be Dead Island 2.”
The first game, published by Deep Silver in September 2011, gained mostly positive reviews (IGN: 8/10) following a sensational introduction via an award-winning, and much-admired game trailer. Speculation about a sequel has been rife.
In December, Deep Silver announced that the game had sold a very respectable 3 million copies. Late last year, the game’s Polish developer Techland registered the name Dead World. Earlier this month, a Dead Island: Game of the Year Edition was outed by a brief posting on the British Board of Film Classification website, stating a late June release.
