Deep Silver shared some Dead Island: Riptide gameplay footage with IGN today and outside of a few new features like a boat you can drive around the flooded island and hubs you have to defend, it looks like what you would expect from a Dead Island game. Bashing, slicing, kicking, and stomping on the undead until they’re nothing but piles of mush and giblets at your feet is still very much the focus. After the jump you can watch the game’s creative producer scavenge mounted guns from a crashed helicopter and use them to fortify a hub from waves of zombies in a Left 4 Dead style crescendo moment.
I like the new feature — it’s something I politely requested back in August — though I can’t say I’m too enthusiastic about the fact that if one survivor dies then you fail the mission. Why not just let them die? It makes me care more about them as fellow survivors, while forcing me to protect them because I’ll have to start over if I don’t will only make me hate them. Actually, forget it. It’s too late, I hate them already.
