  • The People Who Made Bulletstorm Are Making A ‘Weird Fiction Horror’ Game

The high-ranking members who left Bulletstorm studio People Can Fly last August have just announced their first game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The studio—called The Astronauts—was founded by Adrian Chmielarz (former People Can Fly creative director), Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, and they plan to release the "weird fiction horror" PC game later this year.

Weird fiction is a particularly mind-bending style of horror, established in the early 20th century by writers like HP Lovecraft. In addition to making for some of the best horror writing ever (ahem), it also has a solid and spooky history in games, from the amazing text adventure classic Anchorhead to the more recent Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Judging by the people involved, the subject matter, and the in-engine trailer above, I'm mighty intrigued—and a little freaked out—by The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which follows "a detective with the supernatural ability to visualize scenes of lethal crimes," who travels to a secluded mountain area to investigate the disappearance of a young boy. I can only assume that from there things will get ever stranger, with more tentacles/seeing-forever.
