There no question that Assassin’s Creed developers love a good dose of history, and with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, that means bringing some of the world’s most famous pirates and brigands to life once more.
While the newest trailer may not offer much ground-breaking information to those who have already read our own article on the Golden Age of Piracy, but it’s a stunning piece of video nonetheless. With famous names like Calico Jack and Blackbeard – already confirmed to be playing a major role in the game – players with an interest in history may find even more in Black Flag to like.
There’s not much of a sales job needed to get fans of the Assassin’s Creed series interested this time around – while the developers maintain that the yearly release cycle isn’t fatiguing the franchise, injecting new settings and history. Assassin’s Creed + Pirates? We’re in.
There isn’t much information provided in the new video that wasn’t already detailed in the previous gameplay reveal trailer, but the more signs that Ubisoft is interested in maintaining history, the better. The game’s writers are promising to be injecting some mature, realistic drama in place of common pirate tropes, but given the colorful characters that headlined the actual Golden Age of Piracy, they’ve got plenty to work with.
It’s still to early to say if new protagonist Edward Kenway will be able to carve out a place for himself among such larger-than-life figures, although he certainly has the combat skills to make his name a household one. And lest we forget, he’ll have plenty of friends to help him succeed, both pirate, and more…entrepreneurial women.
Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag will be released October 29, 2013 for the PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360. Next-gen releases are also expected.
