Ubisoft has had a strong year of new game announcements from both new and old intellectual properties. From Tom Clancy’s The Division to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the publisher is running full steam ahead into the next-gen of consoles doesn’t seem to be slowing down – especially since they just announced that a brand new next-generation IP will be revealed at the end of the month during GamesCom 2013.
Whilst E3 2013 is the go-to North American gaming conference where most new games and hardware are unveiled, the German-based GamesCom is the European equivalent, delivering plenty of announcements of its own. This year, rumors are spreading that an XCOM: Enemy Unknown sequel will be announced, and Sony already confirmed a few PlayStation 4 games will make their debut in Cologne as well.
Ubisoft’s co-founder and CEO, Yves Guillemot, released a statement earlier today about the company’s enthusiasm for GamesCom:
“This year’s Gamescom is particularly exciting because it’s the first time players can really get their hands on the next-gen consoles and games they have been waiting for. Gamescom is a unique opportunity for us to connect face-to-face with our fans and listen to their feedback, and we think they’ll love what we’re bringing to this year’s show.â€
The announcement came devoid of any further details, including whether the next-generation title will come out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Wii U. With The Division, Blacklist and Watch Dogs filling up a solid list of upcoming shooters, and The Crew bring Ubisoft into the open-world online racing realm, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the publisher, with quite a diverse history in genres, cook up something for a different crowd.

The Division has people excited, but will Ubisoft bank another release on a shooter?
Aside of the new title, fans visiting GamesCom this year will be able to get their hands on most of Ubisoft’s upcoming line-up. Check out the Ubisoft Booth roster below!

Ubisoft has 26 studios around the world, including the studios in Milan, North Carolina, Paris, Quebec, Toronto, San Francisco and Shanghai. Between them, they’ve covered a multitude of genres that leave this announcement very open-ended. What do you think the mystery title is, Ranters? Is Ubisoft making another shooter, or are they changing the pace of their recent announcements?
GamesCom 2013 runs from August 21st-25th in Cologne, Germany and hosts a plethora of video gaming goodness.
