Looks like the roster of characters that we’ll be able to play with in Mortal Kombat X could include Spawn! As a long time fan of both Mortal Kombat and Spawn, this is some incredible news! It’s not set in stone at the moment, but according to Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, he has a deal with Warner Bros. to put him in the game if they want.
This is a universe that Spawn perfectly fits into, and this is what McFarlane had to say about the matter in a interview at Toy Fair 2015 with GamerFitnation:
“I need the brand of Spawn to be bigger than it is right now.” … “We actually have this short deal with [Warner Bros] so they might put him in there. But after the movie we'll pick and choose and do some really cool stuff.” “I'll be doing the movie. [...] I'll write, produce and direct it and we'll see where it goes from there.”
Yes, McFarlane is still talking about getting that new Spawn movie made. I would love to see it happen, but I gave up on it awhile ago. It just seems like there has been absolutely no movement on his Spawn film for several years. He has been writing that thing for-ev-er.
As for the character’s possible inclusion in Mortal Kombat X, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm have an option to include him in the game. Apparently. they have access to Spawn for a few other games as well. The ball is in their court on whether or not they want to use him. I hope they take advantage of the opportunity, because they could seriously do something badass with Spawn in this franchise.
