Earlier this month, inquisitive data-miners uncovered files in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) that included a map of the isle of Vvardenfell, the main landmass featured in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, leading to speculation the game would be returning to the beloved Morrowind region in a future update.
Well, the rumors are true. Bethesda revealed the new chapter of ESO today via live stream. Entitled Morrowind, the new expansion will see players going back to the giant mushroom-strewn landscape of north-eastern Tamriel when it launches on June 6, 2017.
According to the release, players can look forward to seeing what Vvardenfell looked like 700 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls III, even getting to see what Vivec City looked like back when it was still under construction. Existing players will be able to immediately travel to Vvardenfell and enjoy level-appropriate content as soon as the expansion launches. New players will be able to choose to create fresh characters on Vvardenfell, even without completing any previous ESO content.
ESO: Morrowind will include the first new class since the game originally launched, called the Warden. Wielding a combination of melee weapons and nature-based magic, the Warden will also be supported by a new combat ally, the war bear.
For those that prefer player-vs-player combat, a new 4 vs 4 vs 4 battlegrounds mode will be included in the Morrowind expansion, pitting teams against one another in arena-like environments.
