Android turns five today! It doesn't seem like all that long ago that BlackBerries ruled the world, the iPhone was brand new, and the Open Handset Alliance showed everyone its new open source software standard called Android.
These days, Android phones make up a huge portion of all the world's smartphones—75 percent of shipments last quarter—and are at the center of giant international lawsuits and advertising campaigns. And they're good now, too. So happy birthday, Android.
