Star #1 Grand Star Rescue
And so it begins, the start of a new Mario game. It's the eve of the Star Festival, and Princess Peach has requested your presence at the castle. Take the time to roam around Toad Town and get a feel for the controls. Also, try using your pointer to Star Bits crashing into the ground.
As you close in on the castle, Bowser's armada will launch an attack on the poor Toads of Toad Town. There's nothing you can do for them now, so hurry to the castle! There you'll find Peach's castle being ripped from the ground and thrust into the fabric of space. And as if that weren't bad enough, Kamek will transport you somewhere far away with his black magic.
Space Rabbits
After Mario awakens on a small planet, you'll be greeted by a mischievous space rabbit. Follow him to meet with his two friends. They'll ask you to play a game of hide and seek. You'll have to explore various parts of the planet to expose them, then catch them as they try to get away. Look for them in these three places:
Warp Pipe:
Hop into either of the wrap pipes to expose this rabbit. The first pipe is located in front of a house, while the other is located among a pile of rocks on the opposite side.
Crater:
Jump into the crater near the tree stump and small lake.
Grass:
Run through the grass near the warp pipe to expose the rabbit.
After exposing the rabbits, you'll have to chase them down. They're quick, but as long as you stay on their tail you'll nab them. But if you lose sight of them, look for a shaft of blue light that indicates where they are.
After catching all three rabbits, a platform will rise from the ground where a princess awaits. Climb the structure to meet with Rosealina, who'll provide you with a Luma's assistance, allowing you to use a spin attack. Try it out to destroy the ice crystals atop the structure to reveal a Launch Star. Use your spin attack near it to launch Mario to the next planet.
Gather the Star Chips
After landing, you'll have to find five Star Chips in order to create a Launch Star. Circle the planet to find all five in these locations:
Inside a crystal.
On a ledge overlooking the black hole.
Above a blue pedestal.
Next to the 1-Up pillar
On a rocky pedestal.
After collecting all five Star Chips, a Launch Star will appear. Launch from it to another planet.
Trapped Luma #2
One of the wandering Goombas holds the key to the trapped Luma on the far side of this planet. You'll have to destroy them all to find it. A quick way to do this is to spin attack the purple pillar on the opposite side of the planet as the Luma which will stun any nearby enemies; just run into them while they're stunned to take them down for good. To take down any remaining Goomba, simply spin attack when near to stun them, then give them a swift kick.
After destroying the final Goomba, grab the key he drops to free the trapped Luma, then speak with him to learn of another Luma trapped on a nearby planet. He'll then transform into a Sling Star, allowing you to launch over to it.
Trapped Luma #2
A huuuge Goomba on the opposite side of the planet as the second trapped Luma holds the key to free him. Despite his size, he's just as vulnerable as the normal-sized Goombas. So either spin attack him directly, or spin attack the nearby pillar to knock him out, then give him the boot. Grab the key he drops to free the Luma, then follow him down the warp pipe into the planet's core.
Save the Grand Star!
A Grand Star is being used to power the evil machine here, so it's up to you to power to power it down. Look for four flipswitches along the perimeter of the room, and numerous more surrounding the Grand Star itself. Step on each one once to deactivate it, turning it from yellow to blue. Note that you can jump on a flipswitch while standing on it without reactivating it, so don't be afraid to in order to avoid the obstacles.
After powering down the machine, the Grand Star will be yours and will take you to the observatory, where Rosealina awaits.

Star #2 Dino Piranha (Good Egg Galaxy)
Follow Bridge to Luma
From the get-go, follow the wooden bridge on your left to the planet's opposite side. Now keep on chugging along the path and up the tower and speak with the Luma there to have him transform into Sling Star - launch from it to the Launch Start above and fire yourself off to the next planet.
1-Up
After following the wooden bridge to the planet's underside, circle the base of the tower to find an orange pipe leading to a secret area. Use the ramps here to climb the walls to reach a ? coin. Grabbing it causes a series of musical notes to spawn; grab them before they vanish not just for a sweet rendition of the original underground theme from Super Mario Bros, but also for a 1-Up.
Gather the Star Chips
After touching down, you'll have to gather five Star Chips to create a Launch Star, while avoiding the rolling boulders.
Note:
You can destroy the boulders by spin attacking the red amber portion, revealing a ton of Star Bits. However, timing this can be tough, so you're generally better off avoiding them altogether,
Circle the planet to find all five Star Chips in these locations:
Directly in front of a Luma.
Check in the river near the Luma.
In the center of the planet.
Look for another in the planet's middle.
On the far end of the planet, opposite the Luma.
After gathering the Star Bits, launch from the Launch Star that appears to the next planet.
Kill Piranha Plant, Climb Vine
Kill the Piranha Plant on top of the planet to cause a vine to grow from the ground. Hop aboard and shake the Wii Remote to launch from it to a nearby planet.
? Coin / Star Bits
Grab the ? coin underneath the planet to reveal a trail of Star Bits leading across the vine.
Kill Purple Piranha Plant, Climb Vine
Work your way across the planet to a purple piranha plant. Now you'll take damage if you try to attack it directly, but you can use one of the nearby green sprouts to attack it. Position Mario so the green sprout is directly between you and the Piranha, then perform a spin attack to knock it into the piranha, killing it and causing another vine to sprout. Climb it to another planet.
Alternate Route / 1-Up
This route's a bit slower, but you get a 1-Up this way. Immiediatly after landing, head right to a small concrete ledge. Jump from there to the green platform, then quickly leap to the nearby pipe before the platform disappears. Kill the Pirahana, then head on down. Step on the four flipswitches to activate them, revealing a wall of several more you can run up. Activate them all as you go to create a Launch Star at the end which will launch you to the next planet, but make sure to grab the 1-Up about halfway up.
Use Launch Star
Run to the planet's topside and jump up the structure and destroy the crystals on top to reveal a Launch Star, which will fire you to the lever's boss.
Mario crash lands on a giant egg, cracking it in the process. The egg will then begin slowly roaming around - yes, this is the boss, but no, you're not actually in the battle yet. Take this opportunity to restore your life by shooting the small sprouts and grabbing the coins.
Boss: Dino Piranha
When you're ready to tackle the boss, run behind him and spin attack the bulb on his tail to send it flying into his shell, shattering it and revealing the boss - a pissed off Piranha. To beat him, you'll have to attack the bulb on his tail, like before, and knock it into him three times.
Now this Piranha Dinosaur is fast on his feet, so he'll catch up if you try to run away from him. Instead, circle him tightly to get behind him and attack his tail to deal some pain; and don't sweat avoiding his tail, as it won't harm you. After each hit, the boss will get both angrier and faster, but just stay on the move and circle him as soon as you can to avoid his advances.

Star #3 A Snack of Cosmic Proportions (Good Egg Galaxy)
Gathering Star Bit Tips!
Prance through the flowers and grass to reveal Star Bits.
Spin Attack enemies, instead of jumping on them for Star Bits.
Check all ? Boxes.
Camp Star Bit Comet crash zones.
Spin inside the rock circles to turn them into Star Bits
If you have lives to spare, try dying to cause the Star Bits to respawn (your current starbit will remain).
A hungry Luma lurks in this level, and he wants 100 Star Bits. While you'll undoubtable come across plenty as you search the level, it's best to gather as many as you can as early as you can so as to prevent you from backtracking later on. Since Star Bits are all over the place, it's pointless to list each and every location. So instead, we suggest using the tips in the box above, then following our walkthrough to get to your destination once you have the Star Bits in hand.
Star Bit City!
If you really want to gather Star Bits quick and easy, hang around where one of the Star Bit comets crash, such as underneath the first planet, as plenty more will fall in that very same spot! You can grab more than 100 bits quickly with this method.
After dropping onto the first planet, follow the stone path under the planet to a blue Luma, who will transform into a Launch Star for you, sending you flying. Along the way, you'll quickly pass through another Launch Star; if you have over 100 Star Bits, go ahead and launch from this one to meet the hungry Luma, otherwise gather the Star Bits on the next planet then launch from there to the Luma.
Feed the Luma (Egg Planet)
On the Egg-shaped planet, seek out the Hungry Luma and speak with him to learn of his pressing needs. Now aim the pointer at him and fire the Star Bits at him to fill him up. If you don't quite have 100, continue searching the Galaxy for more. Once he's full, he'll transform into a new planet, leaving behind a Launch Star you can use to reach it.
New Planet
Head to a short ledge on the right to begin your ascent up to a Launch Star atop this structure. Along the way, you'll find thorns blocking the path - spin attack the nearby green bulbs into them to clear them out of the way and continue on. Launch from the star at the top to a capsule-shaped planet.
1-Up / Shortcut:
Along the way, you'll spot a 1-Up in an alcove. Destroy the nearby thorns by knocking the green bulb into them, then head on in for the extra life. While you're here, you can wall jump between the two walls up to the left ledge for a shortcut! Nice!
Pill Planet
You'll land on the exterior of a see-through capsule-shaped planet. Work your way down the long side and look for a crystal covering a circular opening - smash it with a spin attack and drop on in.
Once inside, you'll have to work your through this gravity-defying capsule. The arrows along the walls indicate which way the gravity is pulling, so if an arrow is pointing up (also colored red), then you'll be pulled to the ceiling; likewise if it's pointed down (blue), you'll be pulled to the floor.
Begin by heading right, across the various gravity sections, until you come across two moving platforms on the ceiling. Wait for both of them to recede into the ceiling, then quickly dart across, but whatever you do, DO NOT JUMP, otherwise you'll be pulled back to the ground.
Shortcut!
Instead of heading all the way around the capsule and across the two moving platforms, try this: Jump up the first three ledges on the right, so you're just below the first red section. Now turn away from the red section and perform a backflip to leap right into it, pulling you to the ceiling!
Now just head left and climb the platforms up to a Launch Star, which will send you flying to a star-shaped planet.
Star Planet
There's a couple ways to reach the star in the planet's center. Either perform a long-jump to grab it quickly, or grab the five Pull Star pieces lying around to summon five pull stars which you can use to pull yourself right to it.
