Duncan Orrell-Jones will head up the company’s Network Business.
Nintendo announced today that Duncan Orrell-Jones has been hired as senior vice president of network business. According to a statement from Nintendo, Orrell-Jones will “spearhead the development and evolution of Nintendo of America’s digital strategy” for 3DS and Wii U.
Orrell-Jones is the first person to hold the newly created position and will report directly to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Orrell-Jones previously worked at Disney, where he served as senior vice president of Disney Interactive and worked specifically “to drive the company’s digital properties on various platforms.”
Duncan Orrell-Jones brings knowledge and hands-on experience to Nintendo that will help us develop and implement long-term digital initiatives for our systems,” Fils-Aime said. “By creating this new position we’re demonstrating our commitment to the expansion of our online business, and Duncan is the perfect person for the job.”
The news comes in the wake of Nintendo’s continued expansion into the online space, following the announcement of Miiverse for Wii U and continued support for the 3DS eShop. The company aims to sell digital games on the same day as physical copies and will soon begin offering downloadable content for big games such as New Super Mario Bros. 2.
Orrell-Jones will begin his role as senior vice president of network business on July 1st. For more on Nintendo's online ambitions, be sure to read our interview with Shigeru Miyamoto.
