January 12, 2010 - During a conference call this afternoon, CEO John Riccitiello was asked to discuss the company's upcoming plans for next year, and briefly mentioned its "major MMO" title, presumably Star Wars: The Old Republic.
"On the digital side, while we've got a great number of incredible initiatives, one key driver is going to be the launch date of our major MMO," Riccitiello said.
"As it stands today, the game is making great progress towards a spring 2011 launch. But given the volatility of this particular sector, and the fact that we haven't yet provided a specific launch date, we will be excluding the revenue from our fiscal 2011 guidance plans."
Until now, BioWare and Electronic Arts have been quiet on the release date. Signups for the beta began this past September.
Riccitiello did not specify if he was referring to calendar 2011, or the company's fiscal 2011, which rangers from April 2010 through March 2011. We contacted both BioWare and Electronic Arts for additional comments and will update this story as we get new information.
Update: Bioware told IGN that they have no further comments to add to Riccitiello's statement, and would not confirm if he was indeed referring to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Update 2: BioWare has now confirmed its aiming for a spring 2011 release.
"While we have not announced a specific date, we can confirm that we are targeting a spring 2011 release for Star Wars: The Old Republic," BioWare's Sean Dahlberg wrote on its official forums.
