  • Sony Investigating PlayStation 3 Hack Claims

January 25, 2010 - Noted iPhone hacker George Hotz wrote on this personal blog he has cracked Sony's PlayStation 3 console, a process, he says, that took him five weeks.

"I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3," he claims.

Since the console's release three years ago, hackers have been unsuccessful at cracking the PlayStation 3's strong security.

"It's supposed to be unhackable - but nothing is unhackable," Hotz told BBC News. "I can now do whatever I want with the system. It's like I've got an awesome new power - I'm just not sure how to wield it."

Holtz also said he is unwilling to reveal the exploit, saying it's "not really patchable," but Sony can make implementations much harder.

A Sony spokesperson said the company is investigating the report and would clarify the situation as more information becomes available.

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

This is why he should have kept his mouth shut. He should have mentioned the exploit when it is actually usable for something. Right now you can't really do anything with it.

Exactly, its kinda pathetic to be honest, why not just buy the games and give the good production companies that make these games the money they deserve?
