Microsoft sold alot more in the begining of the consoles. The sales of the xbox are low as hell atm. but ps3 is selling so much more now and at the end sony sold more then microsoft.

For me the ps3 have alot better exclusives plus the xbox controller is so horrible.

Im no fanboy, I have both consoles here, but really dont like the xbox, dunno why.
Sony hasn't owned Microsoft on anything yet this generation.

    1) Microsoft still has more total consoles sold worldwide with about a 2 million console lead as of July 9th. ROughly 54Million 360's to 52 million ps3's.
    2) Microsoft has purchased exclusive content since day 1, it's not desperation, it's a strategy. The majority of people that purchase DLC purchase it within the first few weeks, Microsoft is ensuring they have the only viable way to play during that time. They didn't pay millions upon millions for the Black Op's maps either. Plus, it's a known fact that the 360 is the preferred choice for shooters (whether that's good or bad is a matter of opinion), so whatever money they spent they likely re-couped during those first 3 weeks.
    3) Xbox sales aren't low as hell at the moment... in fact, they are pretty much dead even with ps3 sales.

As for exclusives... it's a toss up really. The edge goes to PS3, though not by much. Uncharted is the most overated franchise of all time. Little Big Planet while creative, has no story so it can't hold the interest of those of us that appreciate good stories. GT5 when it comes down to it isn't much different/better then the Forza series. The Metal Gear Solid Series (which is the sole reason I knew I was going to buy a ps3 before it was even released) sadly doesn't have the fan base it used to. Etc. Etc. I'm not even going to try to argue the merits of the first party 360 games, you either like them or you don't... Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Forza, not nearly as impressive as the ps3 games, but traditionally outsell everything the ps3 has to offer, so that says something.

I too own both consoles (2 of each in fact), however as I stated years ago on other forums, it's not a fair comparison to compare the ps3 and the 360 as they really are 2 different beasts. The 360 hands down is the ONLY games console worth owning this generation. The online experience, the quality of the games, the polish on the whole experience has pushed gaming to a new level. Just look at the innovations by Nintendo and Microsoft this generation. Now look at sony.... Sony has played catchup the entire time.

    -Cross party Chat
    -Motion sensing
    -Avatars
    -Rumble in controllers (LoL!)
-The ability to download items in the background so your not stuck looking at a loading bar
    -etc.

Meanwhile Sony's innovation... and it's a big one.

    -Blu Ray

Problem is... Blu Ray wasn't intended to be a games medium. In fact, Games are still just scratching the surface of what Blu Ray is capable of. The PS3 is, was, and will always be the medium used to push Sony's agenda to make Blu Ray the standard optical disk format. Sony won this war, and as a result now collects royalties from everyone that presses media to Blu Ray. I'd wager as many as 15 million ps3 console owners own 1 or less games because they use the ps3 as a blu ray player. Look at attachment rates.. Xbox 360 has the average user owning the console plus at minimum 8 games. The ps3 has closer to 4 while the Wii is even lower. That says that gamers are using the 360, where as movie viewers are using the ps3. There's nothing wrong with it, but ps3 fanboys need to just accept the fact that Sony built an AMAZING Media center, and just a so-so video game machine.

I own 300 plus blu rays thanks to my ps3's. However only 10 games. If I want to listen to music on my media server, watch download tv episodes, use netflix, watch a blu ray disk.... I'll use my PS3.

If I want to lose myself in some classic Gaming moments... give me the 360.

...and for what it's worth, the playstation controller is abysmal. There are far more complaints about it then there are favorable opinions. It's outdated, too small, has mushy triggers that are placed in a terrible location, is awkward while playing shooters (or pretty much anything outside of rpg's or driving sims) and overall just doesn't feel up to par with Microsofts option. There's a reason the 360 controller won awards when it came out in 2005/2006 and the ps3 controller isn't mentioned.

Sony said they sold more, plus alot other sources aswell.

But yea microsoft said they sold more.

Uncharted is amazing, for me halo and gears of war are hell overated. But thats all opinion. Mass effect is on ps3 aswell. Plus alot so calles xbox exclusives are on pc aswell, so no xbox exclusive.

For me ps3 is so much better.

Most of this started when My PS2 laser started breaking down and I came to find out it was a common issue. Did Sony agree to pay for there own fuck up? Of course not, they tried to stick it to the consumer.. thankfully I had other options and moved on to my xbox. I later learned of some tricks to keep the PS2 working and used those to there full extent. I was not happy however, and decided right then and there that I wouldn't be a Sony supporter.

Jump ahead a few years and I finally purchased my ps3. I've had it now for about 3 years, but only own 10 games for it. (Compared to the 160 for my xbox 360 and 10 for my Wii). Primarily it's been my Blu Ray and Media Server machine for which it got steady use. Tonight however the damn thing decided that it was going to stop playing Blu Ray disks and instead freeze up after 30 minutes. To which point subsequent attempts to play said media resulted in freeze ups in shorter intervals. Now I understand things break down, hell I've owned 7 different Xbox 360's, 3 of which RROD on me. However at least MS paid for there own mistakes and rectified the situation for me. Sony meanwhile just charged me $150 for them to fix my 3 year old console. One Hundred and Fifty Fuckin Dollars because Sony put out Shit once again. Really, how hard is it to use a little quality control. I mean, never mind the fact that my personal info was just stolen not 2 months ago and you've taken away features in your "updates" that I rightly paid for, no I don't mind, please make me spend another $150 to get a working console... I only paid $500 to buy the fucking thing.

FUCK YOU SONY. If I wasn't a collector of Video Games/consoles, I would have pawned this thing off and purchased a Oppo-BDP 93 Blou Ray player and washed my hands of you forever.

        /RANT

Was it one of the original PS3 systems? i had the same shit happen to mine. I could play downloaded games, watch DVDs and play music, i just could not use anything Blu ray. It was after my PS3 froze up and would not respond. Fuck mailing it to Sony, i got a new laser from asia and fixed the shit myself, and then sold the piece of shit after i got it working again. Since then, i have sworn off Sony.

The reason the laser went out was because during that specific run of consoles (and there was a LOT) they had a shortage of the bluray lasers, so they got crappy ones to fill the demand while they waited for the duel lasers that were both the blue AND red lasers built into one. If i knew that your system was fucked up, i would have fixed it for you free of charge (minus the cost of the new laser being around $20 or so)

The malfunctions were due to lousy manufacturing standards, i think someone tried to start a class action lawsuit but too many people were content to throw the $150 at Sony, so it went nowhere

Man, I've had my PS2 now for 10 yrs and played the shit out of it. I have an og not a slim and that bitch still purrs like a kitten! I've only had my PS3 for a year now so not very long at all, but have had no problems thus far. I love both my systems. Also have a Sega Genesis that sits around and collects dust because my adapter for my tv shorted out. So i said fuck it a couple yrs ago and bought Sega Classics and Sega Genesis Classics for PS2 so I can play Sega games! I'm actually a Sega Boy to heart.

So to finish my story... I contacted Sony the night it broke, which is the night I started this post. On July 20th I received my empty shipping box and mailed it out via FedEx the next day. I received my "new" ps3 yesterday. It's a different console but cleaned up to look like new. It was manufactured only one month after My original one was however (May 2007) so hopefully the problem doesn't return. The turn around time was pretty good, so I give Sony it's due there. While this one was in the process of being sent out, I actually located another Broken 40gb model for sale online that I had shipped to me for a grand total of $35. It looks brand new, but the blu ray drive has stopped reading all disks. I have a place locally that services consoles though and for around $50 I'll have another ps3 up and running as a backup Blu Ray player just in case.

                  I've owned/own a total of 7 different 360's.

1 - Bought on December 28th 2005 - RROD after a week of inactivity in September 2006. I came back from my honey moon and it broke. I paid $150 to have it fixed but was later issued a full refund.

2 - Replacement console sent back from MS after they "Repaired" my first one. I ended up trading this one in during January 2008 for a PS3 (80gb w/BC) because...

3 - Bought a New tv from Best Buy and received a free Xbox 360 with it in November 2007. This one lasted until Oct. 2008. Sent in with RROD for a free replacement.

4 - Received another "new/repaired" console from MS. This one lasted until November 2009. Sent in for another RROD replacement.

5 - Replacement console that was later traded in on June of 2010 for...

                  6 - A New Xbox 360 Slim model.

                  7. During the Fall of 2009 I traded a spare blu ray player for a back up Xbox 360 which I still have as well.

                  As for my Playstations...

                  1. Traded a Used 360 for my first 80gb model in January 2008 This console broke in July 2011 and Sony replaced it with a new one.

                  2. My replaced Sony Console.

                  3. My other broken Console I purchased for $35 and had repaired for $50. This is a 40gb unit thats been upgraded to 320gb and works fine.

Even with all of that though, I'd still take my 360 any day of the week over my ps3 for gaming. Plus, my 360's never cost me anything thanks to solid customer service from MS. On top of that, MS always thanked me for my patience and sent an apology letter along with a a free month or so of Xbox live. Sony sent me nothing but my console in a box.

Ok payday I want to get a ps3, recently got a 360 love it but want to try out a ps3 finally.

The only thing is I want to know is, are the original fat models just as efficient as the new slim models they sell.

I found a brand new one 80gb hd on amazon for only 330 dollars. I just want to make sure its not going to crash a couple months later as they are the older models.
                    Love.

The old fat 20gb and 60gb models are known to have problems and require servicing from Sony. There were 2 versions of the 80gb fat model. The original had backwards compatibility (which is what I have) had the potential for issues, but no where near the level that the original 20gb and 60gb models did. All things considered, unless you plan on playing a TON of ps2 games, then go for a newer model. Considering you're from the US, just go to any store and pick up the latest bundle. They're $299 and include a game. You lose backwards compatibility, but get a more reliable system and a newer game.
