PlayStation 2 discontinued in Japan after almost 13 years of service

The very last shipment of PlayStation 2 units to Japanese retailers is out the door, and the prolific console is now discontinued in the country. As Famitsu reports, production of the venerable black box ceased today nearly 13 years after its launch on March 4, 2000.

While the original PlayStation sits in and around the 100 million mark, the PS2 built upon that success to sell over 150 million units worldwide and dominate its generation. Its long life in Japan is a testament to it comfortably being the best-selling home console ever.

yes, the PS1 is awesome
back in the day the developer had ideas ...now we see only sequels which destroying the whole series (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, etc)

Konami was such a great company with classic games ...and today? they are even too stupid to release bugfree HD collections ...the PS2 version of "Silent Hill 2" looks better than the HD collection on PS3 ...the PS2 version of "Zone Of The Enders 1&2" has 60 fps ... the PS3 HD collection only 30 fps ...wtf? do they even develop game today?

SquareEnix ...they only release Final Fantasy games ...the more they release they worse they are!!! Do they dont realizing that the latest FF games were bad (compared to the old ones)? SquareEnix have a lot of other great franchises they could continue ...Vagrant Story, Bushido Blade (maybe the best Beat Em Up ever), Chrono Trigger [MENTION=1]Skyfall, Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, Brave Fencer Musashi, Tobal #1 or Front Mission

all what we see today are mainstream games ...olny few are really awesome... sad but true!!!


when more people would give the Dreamcast a chance then this would be the best console ...SEGA has reborn the QTE (Quick Time Events) and brought them on a higher level ...when they wouldnt have done that then games like "God Of War" wouldnt be such a stylish and epic game, just another boring Hack N Slay game!!!
the Dreamcast was/is a fantastic console but we couldnt see its evolution, so yes I agree the PS1 is still the best console of all time

chrono trigger ftw!!

square was really truly fantastic back in their day. they had an amazing run with chrono trigger, their nintendo collaboration with mario rpg, final fantasy 3/6, ff7. all of those came out in a row i believe. they were untouchable. kinda like rare was in their day. sad how things have changed

mine is still in its carry case at my moms house lol still have all my Shenmue games the little memory card with the mini games etc good times

Dreamcast! That was the console that made me unexpect what was next.. They had so many random but great games.. Ps &Xbox are so predictable. I only miss playing black on Ps2
