  • New ‘inFamous: Second Son’ Screens; Final Box Art and Install Size Revealed

Easily one of the most anticipated PS4 “launch window” titles, inFamous: Second Son is finally one month from release. At first, many gamers assumed that the super-powered open world experience was actually a day one next-gen offering – but Sony later confirmed that it would actually be arriving in the first quarter of 2014 (which, technically, is part of the aforementioned launch “window”). While Sucker Punch has been able to keep a surprising lid on all of the powers available to new superhero (or antihero) Deslin, new details have slowly been unveiled.

In the last few weeks, we’ve been given a better look at the “real-world” Seattle setting and received fresh details on the game’s revamped morality system – along with confirmation that Second Son will not include a multiplayer component. Now, with only one month before the game’s release, we’re getting a sneak peek at the final box art – plus an idea of how much precious hard drive space the game will require.

The final (albeit French) box artwork was shared over at the PlayStation France Community Blog by coordinator, PixelTux, and reveals that inFamous: Second Son will require a 24GB hard drive install.

The 24GB install is nothing to scoff at – especially considering the stock PlayStation 4 hard drive is only 500 GB. Yet, it’s not an outrageous amount either, given that Killzone: Shadow Fall required a whopping 45GB (minimum). Anyone familiar with current and/or next-gen consoles is probably well-adept in storage device management – deleting install assets for titles that they no longer play – but double-digit gigabyte storage requirements are still a hard and inconvenient pill to swallow, especially this early in the new console generation. As developers take further advantage of next-gen hardware, install sizes will continue to balloon but, fortunately for PS4 players, the Sony console does allow for upgradable hard drives.

That said, considering the impressive visuals on display in inFamous: Second Son, it’s hard to be too discouraged by the subsequent storage requirements.

Check out two new screens from the game below (featuring recently unveiled conduit, Abigail “Fetch” Walker):

Sucker Punch has been vague about how exactly Fetch will play into the story – though we do know that she’ll accompany Deslin for a significant chunk of the story and is the source of the “neon” power. She’s also attached to the game’s morality system – meaning that decisions Deslin makes will affect Fetch as well as how she reacts to the him and the world around them.

The box art doesn’t hold too many other revelations (we’ve already heard about remote play and 1080p) – given that the featured bullet points are pretty straightforward:

Use the power of other conduits.
    Parkour the roofs of Seattle.
    Alter the course of history.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what surprises the studio has in store when inFamous: Second Son hits store shelves.

inFamous: Second Son releases March 21, 2014 for the PS4.
