Utilizing the same sort of technology that enables the feature on the PlayStation Vita, Sony's upcoming Xperia Z3 phones and compact tablets will have the ability to stream PlayStation 4 games over Wi-Fi networks. That's right, Sony is still making phones.
I don't mean to offend anyone out there with a Sony phone. I'm sure there are some of you reading, and perhaps there'll be even more once the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact arrive in November with their sexy new Remote Play feature. It's just that they never really come up in conversation. In fact, the closest I've come to seeing a Sony phone in the wild over the past couple of years was on screen during The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a Sony picture.
But hey, these new Z3's look quite lovely
Though they look even lovelier gripped lovingly in Sony's Game Control Mount, secured through the magic of suction cups.
The Z3 line's Remote Play function should work the same way it does on the PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation 4 will pair with the device, and as long as you've got a speedy home Wi-Fi network you'll be able to see what's going on in your PlayStation 4 games on the phone display and control them with the Dualshock 4.
For those of you interested in the phone's non-PlayStation features, Gizmodo's got a lovely run-down of the Xperia Z3's technical prowess. What we're concerned about is that Remote Play functionality. Is it enough of a draw to get you to consider switching to a Sony phone come November?
