PS3 Slim (Announced)

Yep, it has been officially confirmed, the PS3’s new SKU will hit stores in September and be in all regions by the 11th. Price? $299 USD, 299 euros, and 29,980 yen. That wasn’t a surprise there. It will also have the same features as the current model and a 120GB HDD (so we still only get 2 USB ports).

The system itself is 32 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter and uses 34 percent less power consumption

* New slim model comes with sync feature for Sony Bravia HDTV sets:

“The new PS3 system is also equipped with the BRAVIA® Sync™ feature. By connecting the new PS3 system and a BRAVIA TV with the HDMI cable, users are able to directly operate the XMB on PS3 using the TV remote control. Other functions include “System Standby” that will automatically turn off the PS3 system when the BRAVIA TV is turned off”

* New slim SKU drops support for Linux. Honestly, this wasn’t very useful anyway: if you want Linux, get a cheap PC or laptop with more RAM.
* Based on this comparison pic from Sony PR, the size difference looks larger than 33%. Hopefully these pics are proportionately accurate:



* I would assume that this new slim model uses newer 45nm fabrication tech for GPU/CPU. The initial PS3 hardware used 90nm fab tech and recent PS3 models used 60nm fab tech. (Smaller fabrication tech results in lower power draw, lower heat output, and smaller size).
* Are the cited 33% weight, power, and heat improvements compared with initial PS3 SKU or recent PS3 SKU?

Finallt , i am glad they cut down the fat from the last version.
Now we can buy a slim line version of the same system which now look's more stylish and fitter.

this looks nice but it still sucks because u still cant play your ps1 or ps2 games on this system.i have the first orignal ps3 with four usb ports and i can play ps1 and ps2 games on it now it would be dope if they made a slim model of this ps3 version wit 4 usb ports

Every PS3 can play PS1 games they left the chip in for that cause it cost close to nothing. PS2 games still are not playable but there will be an update with emulation and a PS2 PSN store to buy and download games soon.

Yea if its the motorstorm or Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle they have emulation to play PS2 games....I have the 80GB Motorstorm bundle but never really use the BC

The pre-orders for the PS3 Slim have sold out on Amazon if you check the product page (select the 120 GB version). You get this message:

Or sometimes when you refresh you get this message, “Usually ships within 1 to 2 months”.
