Sega France, Germany, Spain, Australia and Benelux are no more.
Sega has announced today that it is closing its European and Australian offices in a global restructure.
Koch Media has been brought in as a distribution partner for the European territories, with the exception of Benelux, which will be handled by Level03 Distribution. Australia will be serviced by Five Star Games, a new company founded by the ex-Managing Director of Sega Australia Darren Macbeth. Sega UK, meanwhile, will remain open as the publisher's European HQ.
COO of Sega Europe Jurgen Post had this to say: “SEGA is entering a new and exciting phase that will position the company as a content led organisation maximising sales with strong and balanced IP such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Total War, Football Manager and the Aliens franchise. The company will benefit from a clear focus and realigned strategy for our digital business and packaged goods and we are confident that this will lead to a successful future.”
This is the latest move in a massive restructure of the company that affected the American offices earlier this year, after Sega posted a loss of £54 million (about $86 million) for the end of the last financial year.
