  • EA shuts down game servers only 15 months after release

A Sports MMA and Burnout Revenge going dark.

EA has announced it's turning off the online servers for a swathe of its older titles - including some that aren't that old, which raises the worrying prospect of Online Passes not representing the long-term value that you might hope for.

EA's turning off the Xbox Live features of a selection of Xbox 360 games next month, including one - Spare Parts - which only released in January last year. While we're sure that this isn't going to inconvenience that many people (we gave the charming but irritating platformer 5/10 at the time), it's not promising to see that it was barely past its first birthday before getting the chop.

More controversially, the servers for the actually-quite-good EA Sports MMA and Burnout Revenge are getting the boot too - which is probably going to be a bit more more of a chore. Here's the full list of games to be terminated on April 13th:

    Burnout Revenge

    EA Create

    EA Sports Active 2.0

    The Godfather II

    MMA

    Need for Speed ProStreet

The Saboteur (loss of The Midnight Club access)

    Spare Parts

Anybody going to miss them? Or has EA just picked the games that only have five players each and we're worrying over nothing?

That's what I like about the COD games. It has a host system so no matter how old the game gets people can still play online. I dug out my copy of Far Cry months ago and discovered the multiplayer got shut down. That was a popular game for single and multiplayer. They released Far Cry 2. I don't think that's a coincidence. All these assholes care about is money.

Its so strange there are still no rules against stuff like this. Game developers can do whatever they want. Nobody is stopping them.

People paid 60+ euro for a Game, so It need to work, even after 1-2 years. What if people paid, and still want to play this?

Sad there still no rules for stuff like this, its really retarded developers can do this.
