  • Microsoft Boosts Security to Prep for Xbox 720

Security at Microsoft HQ raised to “an unprecedented level” as development ramps up.

Microsoft has reportedly increased security at its headquarters as it ramps up development on the next generation Xbox. Anonymous sources have told Geekwire that security has been boosted to “an unprecedented level” in the area of the Redmond, Washington Microsoft campus that houses the Xbox development team.

Microsoft allegedly told employees this week that “it will be implementing new physical security measures — limiting employee access at four key Xbox and Interactive Entertainment Business buildings to ensure confidentiality of upcoming products.” The changes are expected to affect Microsoft Studios A, B, C and D by the end of the month and will restrict access to employees of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, who will still have open access. Everyone else will need to use an online registration site to gain entry as visitors and will need to be escorted by an employee with access.

The changes are reportedly in response to recent leaks at Microsoft, including a 56-page document outlining Microsoft’s roadmap for its new console. Additionally, photos of a next-generation development kit emerged online, as well as photos of the next-gen Kinect’s user interface.

While Microsoft has refused to acknowledge the next Xbox, we’ve been able to glean info from multiple sources, including a job listing for the next-generation Kinect, a patent for multiple CPUs and an application for an “immersive display experience” patent.
