Ahead of the Xbox 720 release date, new reports have revealed Microsoft is working on four new IPs for the eagerly awaited next-generation games console.
Whilst avid gamers will no doubt want to see their franchise favourites such as Halo and GTA 5 make the jump to the next-gen gamer, Microsoft is seemingly pinning its Xbox 720 hopes on new intellectual properties with the company’s product manager leaking as many as four new Xbox 720 IPs.
Prematurely unveiling the company’s plans via his official LinkedIn profile, Microsoft Studios Senior Product Manager and Planner, Jonathan Browne has revealed that a quartet of completely new and as yet unannounced IPs have recently been taken “from the very early concept phase through green light to production.”
Working on Microsoft’s first person portfolio up to three year’s into the future of console releases, Browne, who joined Microsoft Studios back in 2010, is believed to be focusing on Xbox 720 games with Microsoft’s PS4 rival expected to be officially unveiled in the coming months. Following a potential March unveiling, a pre-Christmas 2013 Microsoft Xbox 720 release date has been repeatedly rumoured.
Adding further backing to the raft of Xbox 720 game rumours, developer Black Tusk, formerly Microsoft Games Studios Vancouver, recently leaked that it was working on the “next big entertainment franchise,” with the reportedly next-gen title tipped to be “a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect.”
“We’re not working on an existing franchise, we’re looking to build the next Halo here, for example, which is really exciting,” Black Tusk Manager Mike Crump said in a recent interview.
Whilst an Xbox 720 release date has been widely tipped for pre-Christmas 2013, Microsoft, unlike Sony, has yet to tease its next-generation console ahead of an official unveiling. On Friday Sony revealed a February 20 PlayStation event will be held in New York with the announcement expected to see the PS4 release date officially unveiled.
Last week developers leaked details of an upcoming PS4 game, with the Sony bound title revealed by French based Ubisoft Annecy as a “confidential game” that will be a “new AAA project.”
