    • Thats quite a difference, the vocals could do with a bit of EQing to remove that "bucket" effect from them but overall impressive work as always.

I'm still going through that bumper Mega drop, can't believe how crisp some of those sessions sound now. Its amazing how many elements can be tucked away in the mix that you manage to bring back, definitely got a good ear.

      Cheers

I can't do anything about the "Bucket" effect. What we need is a better rip or the cdq track already, Damn It!

Agreed, I use a pair of Sony MDR-10RCs as they are so flat in their reproduction that its akin to listening via monitors. Can't stand this new trend of hyper lowend mud playback with shrill top end to compensate but fools and their money...

I think the bucket effect could be reduced quite a lot with some EQing, I don't have any software on this Mac otherwise I'd do it as I can almost see the range that needs to be tweaked a bit to calm that effect down. Here's a thought:

Take two copies of the isolated vocals, EQ out all of the low end from one upto the bucket frequency (which is just to the right of the middle of the range, technical I know ) and then do the same with the upper frequencies with the other. Invert them over and phase to isolate the bucket range and then overlay just that over the original vocal, dropping it down by a few dB at a time to calm it down, ya feel me?

Naw the first one was better.

Don't touch the vocals anymore, I think it just needs some EQing. Like reducing the mid-lows. Did a quick test

Much less bucket now, its a shame the original rip is such crappy quality though as its quite hard to make a turd shine, no matter how much polish you throw at it.

I had a quick look at the EQ, the 3k to 6k range is where you need to be playing around to get rid of that bucket sound but the wavering on the channels due to the tape rip is another thing that needs to be looked at plus the mixdown seems off with the drums on one channel and hats on the other.

According to the Spectral Frequency from 3.8k to 4.5k. I dont think I will spend more time on this track until we get a better quality.

                          • Awwww come on man. You did great so far!

You could eq the vocals a bit aaaaaand maybe, for a further step, add the original sample to it In a low volume, barely noticable, subtle, but to make the melody still more audible

Agreed, this is about the best it will get and the rest isn't worth the effort for the result.

I just looked at the output on VLC and guessed the range from there as an adjunct to my previous "technical" statement, nice to know that I was in the right range just by eyeballing.

BTW - Do you have that J Flexx DAT that Jmix leaked a while back? Theres a really great quality rip of Stayin Alive on there (his best track in my opinion) that could really do with a proper mixdown to make it shine. If not I'll up a copy for you.

                              Cheers
