I'm sorry I always have to ask this, but could someone please go to my YouTube channel (Wizzattz Productions) to embed the 3 videos of my remix to "Pain" on this thread since I'm unable to. Also I'm not sure if the previous thread should be left posted or not since at the time I didn't have the remix ready. Maybe those discussions could be move/pasted here as well

2Pac - Pain Feat Stretch (25th Anniversary Remix)
"Pain"... One of the dopest songs by 2Pac & Stretch. It's a shame that there "komradery" ended on the sourest of notes due to the Quad Studios shooting. They made great music together during their period of friendship...
Back when I first started doing these remixes and instrumental remakes of 2Pac music, somewhere around the time of remaking the "Late Night" instrumental, I attempted to do an instrumental remake for "Pain". It sucked. (at least by my standards ) I always had intentions of trying it again one day, I just didn't know when I'd give it a 2nd try. Well last week fellow YouTuber "H Cadena" asked If I could remake it. (Thanks for somewhat reminding me bro✌️) Now at this point, I'm not too fond of recreating instrumentals exactly as they were originally, because it's just toooo time consuming and it could almost drive anyone nuts trying to match it perfectly. It's damn near impossible. Now "Pain" might have a small amount of instruments, but believe it or not, It's not that easy to recreate it's overall sound either. (a lot trial & error of pitch shifting, eq-ing and sequencing went into just getting the snares and hi-hats to sound right alone. ) However, I did try my best to match the instruments to retain the general feeling of the original to create a remix.
I had to sample "Sing A Simple Song" by Sly & The Family Stone to recreate the drum loop pattern and of course the melodically dreamy "Living Inside Your Love" by Earl Klugh to recreate the sped-up, slightly eerie main melody (I noticed that in the original version of "Pain" that the Earl Klugh sample was sampled in "mono", so for this remix it is in "stereo".) While listening to "Living Inside Your Love" I heard various parts that weren't used in "Pain" that could've been used to make a dope remix/alternate version, so I sampled quite a few of those portions. On the 1st half of the 3rd verse and the very end, I used another part from the same Earl Klugh song that is completely different from the main sampled melody used in "Pain" to add a new element to the vibe of that verse and ending. Oh yeah, I couldn't forget the Star Trek sample of the lines "I couldn't help but notice your pain... My pain...
It runs deep, SHARE IT WITH ME!!!" (What an odd, yet classic choice of sample. Star Trek of all things )
I only replayed 3 instruments: I blended a random light kick drum with an 808 to get the deep sub bass and a synth bass instrument called *"A little BITE" on Reason 8 (*I don't know whether it's viewed as a string or a bass line in "Pain", but I treated it like a bass line and made it do more than what it did originally to spice it up a bit.)
Now the acapella(s)... This was veeeeeeeeeeeery tricky. I found a CDQ acapella that is apparently from 2paclegacy.net, but it only has 2Pac's verses... (I'm guessing some industry politics has something to do with this.) So of course I had to turn to a good friend and "acapella creator genius" MrMind from 2pac-forum.com for his mastery of extracting acapellas from songs to complete this remix. I used many bits and pieces from numerous CPU acapellas that he sent me to get the best mix and sound. (Thanks again MrMind ✌️) For those that ask "Why are Stretch's vocals from the edited/clean version while 2Pac's vocals are from the uncensored version?" Out of all the CPU acapellas, the edited/clean version blended well with my remake/remix of the instrumental as far as sound and clarity. The female(s) hook (I think it's Y N Vee member Natasha Walker. I'm not sure though) was kind of difficult to put together due to "artifacting" in the acapella, but I made it work.
While remaking/remixing the "Pain", I thought to myself "What year was this song released?" March 22, 1994 on the "Above The Rim" soundtrack. (cassette tape version)according to Wikipedia, so "Pain" turned 25 this year. It would've been/could be nice to get a "Maxi-Single" with remastered versions of all the various mixes plus some extras from whoever the company that owns the masters. (*sigh* whoever that is... It's not too late since it's only October at the moment of me writing this) This is my interpretation of what a "bonus track/remix" could be like if "Pain" was reissued for a "25th Anniversary" release...

Noit sure about the sax in the third verse tho
There's no saxaphone in that part of the sample. It sounds like a variety of instruments to me. Rhodes with a phaser on it, a guitar and some orchestra stringsLast edited by kool81; 10-14-2019, 03:44 PM.
