Description as on YouTube:
Here we go again lol... Looking back at the last time I remixed this song It really makes me cringe . I literally hear everything I could've did better with the beat, but at that time I didn't have friends/fellow producers like the great MrMind of 2pac-forum.com to lend a helping hand. (It's definitely incredible what u do bro ) I didn't even write much in the description box either lol. Well I have plenty of details to talk about for this remix soooo here we go.
Let me start off by saying this. Whenever I do revisions of these remixes, remakes and OG Vibes, that means I really like the song and I feel I didn't do it justice remixing/remaking it the first time around so when it comes to 2Pac's "When We Ride On Our Enemies" (the OG version, not that atrocious remix on the "Better Dayz" album... More on that later ) I love it just as much as the OG'z for "Still I Rise" and "Breathin". When I got my hands on the Makaveli bootlegs back in the day, I jammed it over and over again. When the retail albums started coming out I was like "Oooooh man, it's about to go down" cuz as we all know, the bootlegs were not mixed properly. Oh it went down alright... Down to an ALL TIME LOW!!!! I'll never forget about the day I caught the bus to Soundwaves.(record store) They had the "Better Dayz" album in a CD player to listen to it (yes, this was how we used to listen to music kids ) I skipped right to "WWROOE"... When I hit play if you could've seen my face . I was abso-muthafuckin-lutely HORRIFIED by what I was hearing in the headphones !!! I left the store and just walked back home thinking " Why... Why would they do such and awful thing to this song... (Plus they removed the fantastic "You can tell by the hate in my eyes I'll be down til' the day that I die / When we ride on our enemies" hook. It seems so empty without it) 2Pac was murdered physically, but that wasn't enough. Now they have to murder the music too.." That was the moment I vowed to NEEEEEEEVER-EVER-EVER buy another retail album ever again. 2Pac's name, vocals and song titles might be on them, but goddamn it, I don't know wtf that was, so I just stuck with the bootleg version in hopes that one day it would be released it hi-quality. (It was , just not in retail form.) A lil tidbit: I played the song for my girlfriend at the time (She know who she is if she comes across this ) and she dropped a bomb on me. She was like, "That's "Wishing On A Star" by Rose Royce from the "Baby Boy" soundtrack". I was like, "What's that?" She played the song, OMG, I fell in love with it instantly. (I could say I might actually love it more than 2Pac's/Johnny J's redition of the beat) It's such a beautiful "break-up to make-up" song ( I ain't gone lie, sometimes when I listen to it it makes me cry ) I found it interesting (one could even say "a bit awkward") how 2Pac and Johnny turned a "love song" into a song about "ridin' on one's enemies" . So I figured, Amaru didn't or couldn't clear the interpolated beat nor couldn't or wouldn't pay Six Nine for the accompanying hook. Being that the beat for "WWROOE" was an "interpolation" rather than a "direct sample" (my best guess is because there were no parts on the "Wishing On A Star" where there was no singing on top of the beat) I always wondered what it would sound like it "WWROOE" actually sampled "WOAS"? My first attempt was cool, but it's not to my liking, especially as mentioned above the sample has the singer singing throughout the sample (I'm wishing on a dream...etc.) So with the help of my friend MrMind, he was able to remove the vocals from the sample, leaving just the instrumental . So in the words of 2Pac, "You know what time it is" it's time for a "Revised OG Vibe/Remix".
Samples:
"Wishing On A Star" by Rose Royce
(Vocals removed from the song to create an Instrumental to be able to sample without the vocal constantly being sung throughout the song was done by MrMind of 2pac-forum.com)
Hi-Hats and Kick Drum sampled from "Still I Rise" by 2Pac Ft. Big Syke, Kadafi & Hussein Fatal
Snare sampled from "When We Ride On Our Enemies (OG) by 2Pac Ft. Sixx Nine
Beginning Bass Line sampled from "When We Ride On Our Enemies" by 2Pac Ft. Sixx Nine (the part where 2Pac starts off the song viciously calling The Fugees out by name. I couldn't quite replicate the pitch bending/winding up and down the scales bass sound that sounded good enough, I just sampled it instead.)
Acapella(s):
"When We Ride On Our Enemies" by 2Pac Ft. Sixx Nine
(Acapella for the hook by Six Nine was created by MrMind of 2pac-forum.com.
Part of the "Wah-Wah" guitar was sampled from artifacts in the created acapella from "WWROOE"
Instruments added:
Strings, Finger Bass, Tambourine and Filtered Wheeler (whistle sound to emulate the one from "Toss It Up") played on Reason 8.0Last edited by kool81; 12-23-2019, 06:51 AM.
