I was talking to a few folks on YouTube earlier today about reading here on the forum that "Never Had A Friend Like Me" sampled "The Secret Garden" by Quincy Jones. To help remove their doubts I did this quick lil demonstration to show how it is true. I figured I'd post it here too since I got the info from this website

I could understand if u didn't cuz those bass and lead guitar riffs for that song do soooo much, it would be damn near impossible to recreate them note for note exactly how they play. I hear ya man. People have asked me to remake the OG to Until The End Of Time too. I look at that and Never Had A Friend Like Me as 2 beats that would too time consuming to get it right note for note. Even Never Call U Bitch Again has that lead guitar doing sooooooo much that it would almost require the original guitarist(s) to replay all of those to truly be able to get it near perfect lolOriginally posted by enya View PostComment

Man I busted out laughing at what u said about trying This Ain't Living cause I can toooooootally relate lol. The situation be like... Me: "Hmm I think I can remake this"... Pull up and align the sample along with some Johnny J drums. Then pull up a bass guitar and a lead guitar (in your case, actually playing the real instrument. In my case, trying to do that shit with a fucking keyboard lmao) and get about 2 to 4 bars of the riffs done and you start looking how much time has passed and compare it to the fact that "Ok.... I got the 1st few seconds of the song done" then play the actual 2Pac/Johnny J beat and realize that the remake ain't matching..... Well I think it's more of a matter of the task being a bit too complicated for us, whereas people may think we are very capable of taking on such a task of reproducing some of these tracks. I'm sure if Johnny J and whoever played bass and lead guitar on those songs lost the sessions, they probably wouldn't be in a hurry to recreate them lolLast edited by kool81; 05-09-2020, 12:32 AM.Comment
