R.I.P. Shock G.
This one is a bit difficult and maybe even a little eery to write about, because of the irony of the things that happened this past week up to now. (From my POV at least. [MENTION=1313]Krysis will chime in later to give his POV)
On April 15th, Krysis hit me up that morning via text message with a YouTube link to a Parliament song (I'll mention it in a min), but for some I didn't see it until after I sent him a link to my OG Vibe for "Hold On Be Strong" that afternoon. He of course asked if I checked the link and asked what does it sound like? When I checked it I guessed "Throw Ya Hands Up" lol. He was like "Yeah that song samples this too, but start at 1:10 and slow it down..." Like I said, Krysis will chime in later to tell how he came across this, but when I heard it I was like
"MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!"
"AAAWW SHIT, THERE IT IS"!!!! at least in several parts throughout the song.
"Funkentelechy" by Parliament
We began chopping up the parts that we thought made up the main part of the beat (still haven't been able to figure out the crumbling metal sounds that play in the background yet though...)
The conclusion that we came to is that Shock G. must've sampled multiple parts of this song.
Here's what I think the sample chops are.
Here's how it sounds added into my instrumental remake from back then with the RUSD OG verse. (Preview)
We talked about somehow getting Shock G. to confirm it. Krysis tried to reach out to Money B. as far as getting in touch with Shock G. and earlier today showed me his response. The one thing Money B. confirmed to Krysis was that Shock G. was taking a hiatus from a lotta music stuff lately and that if he hits him up, he'll remember to ask... Hours later, Shock G. passes...
Again, R.I.P. Shock G.
Thank you for all you've done for the world musically as yourself or as Humpty Hump. If there is a "Heaven" up there in the sky, may 2Pac be the first one to run up and hug u at the gate.
