  • Temptations (Dominator's Extended Retail Mix)

Finally I can post my mixdown of the 24 track reel lol.
Tried to recreate the LP version as close as possible.
Full outro, no mixing (mono) errors

It was a lot of work to adjust the acapella. I wonder how they did that in 1994 without mouse and clicks

    Enjoy

Yeaaaah... that tag is the only thing keeping me from adding this mix to my archive. Now we have the reel perhaps an untagged rip?

No, sorry. You can delete it if you don't want to keep it

Mixing down a reel is no easy task if you wanna do it right. Unfortunately people spoiled it for you by uploading my work and mislabel it. The least I should get is proper credit.

From my experience with getting multitracks from artist Ive produced that ask me to mix their songs a lot of times when I receive all the stems they usually aren't "pre-mixed", so I have to adjust the volumes of everything to make everything blend together properly. In this case I think "acapella" might be the wrong word, but I get what he means. The main vocal, double, (sometimes in Pac's case, Triple) ad-libs, etc are all on separate tracks. Hooks are a whole different beast to mix when there are lots of vocals on separate tracks. *Can't forget about all the separate stems/tracks for the beat. (Hi-hats, kick drum, snare, bass line etc) Also in this case trying to make it sound like how it was mixed on the album/retail version. Aint no telling what type of gear they used as far as effects, compression, limiters, eq etc to be able to replicate that sound.

Thanks bro. you really have a lot of knowledge. It definitely shows in your work. Thanks for the break down.

No problem bro. Mixing can be a veeeeeery tedious process, especially when it comes to having multitracks. It can be easy sometimes if there aren't that many stems for the beat and vocals, but in this case for Temptations (24 separate stems/tracks) it can be a huge mixing task to take on. Damn near a headache if there is a certain expectation for the sound one is trying to achieve. I'm sure [MENTION=12451]Dominator has a story about mixing this lol.
