  • Thug 4 Life (JoeKool81 OG Remake)

2F member @<a href="http://www.2pac-forum.com/member.php?u=1504" target="_blank">tli</a> asked me about doing "Thug 4 Life" today and it just so happens that @<a href="http://www.2pac-forum.com/member.php?u=1364" target="_blank">Joecool</a> and I were in talks about it as well around December 2020.

I drafted a demo at that time by resampling "How'd I Know That Love Would Slip Away" by Deniece Williams

I replayed a similar bass line as the OG, used some Johnny J hi-hats, I used a kick from my copy of MTV Music Generator on my PS1 try to match the kick drum of the OG, but at the time I couldn't find a snare to match the OG and it was in such a low quality on the OG when I tried to sample the snare directly, so we scrapped the idea. I remember telling Joecool that I have no idea what that snare is sampled from, but the only thing I can think of that has a similar sounding snare is most of the music on the Mortal Kombat 1 arcade soundtrack.

    VS.

I never tested that theory back then, but when tli asked me about the song today I thought "Hmm... let me try that snare now."
    This is the result.

    Shoutout to Joecool and tli

Not bad. I think they replayed the guitar though. When I made an og vibe 15 years ago (lol) I couldn't get the sound right for the sake of it. Tried all kind of filters but there's something weird about that sample. The flutes or whatever it's called are definitely sampled though.

Maybe, if you feel like it, you could make a version with the guitar filtered from Satelite Niggaz?

                              Solid work as usual Wizzattz
I always wondered if Johnny J really produced the OG, because it doesn't sound like a JJ's beat...
