My only problem with the "Modern" mastering techniques has to do with the loudness war. For example the "remastered" versions of 2pacs album are progressively sounding worse and worse. They are unescesarily loud and some even sound distorted.

Now to comment on the video. Wow all of that looks amazing and very interesting. thanks for posting

I agree, there are no dynamics left in modern releases, all you hear is plain cold, distorted, sharp sounding digital mixes and masters.
i blame DR.DRE and his Chronic 2001 release for starting loudness war, he was the first who started making mixes incredibly loud, and then requested for final master to be even louder.
whats the fucking point? you want louder? turn up the volume knob!

play 2pacalypse and strictly for my niggaz, compared to AEOM and 7 day theory, there is big difference in volume level.

but records tracked completely analog on tape and mastered on tape can never do harm like digital/computer mxies and loud masters can.

digital will distort the sound when you pass -0db, making peaks look like they've been cut off with sharp razor.
analog tape will compress the peaks and round them, and then you get famous sound called tape saturation.
you can hear it on alot of "gang starr" vocals, pleasant harmonic distortion on mid-hi frequency. or listen bass guitar on 7 day theory.

      tape rules!

      p.s.
loudness war - they address it in this video:
