  • Welcome Victor (Oscar's Friend)

    Hey, Welcome to the forum.
I made this thread so you can post everything you want to know, ask here, I will be glad to help you out.

Ill start off by saying, producing and mixing aint something that you can just learn just by reading someones posts or books, it takes months and years until you understand the game completely, but knowing theory and knowing basic terms will make things much more easier and thats what this thread is about.

Start off here by telling me what Gear & Software you use ?

Oscar gave me link to beat you made, and the first thing i noticed is real long piano intro with weird plastic sounding reverb and that whole track is mastered really LOUD, thats so wrong, that way you will never get good quality production, with big sound and punchy dynamics.
First, try to keep beat arrangement simple if you can, and study other people music, music of your idols for example, then try to mimic what they did in your own production.

Dont make samples and instruments so LOUD while you producing/mixing, you kill the dynamic and squash the soul out of music that way, always keep channels in green zone.

Getting desired sound can be achieved by using parametric or graphic equalizers, and limiters/compressors.

Search on internet how these things work so you get better understanding where, when and how to use and apply them.

    thanks man

glad to be on the site

well first off I use FL Studio

    but just got reason 5
I might not use reason till im more familiar with it

but yeah man i know my beaats arent mastered correctly personally i dont know anything about making that professional sound

ive looked everywhere for tutorials but nothing ever is posted

I've been making beats too damn long to not know this part and it gets soo damn frustrating when i upload a song to utube or somewhere and people are like... "Sounds like shit"

I guess i just dont have the right ears for that kinda thing

i made that beat on FL Studio 9 XXL Producer edition

anyway thanks for this thread and maybe u can teach me some tips and tricks..

    peace

Stick with FL, you can use third-party pluggins and software, that will help you in the mixing process.

Most of producers dont know how to mix their beats but thats why the engineers exist, thats their part of work, to fuck with the knobs and gear and make song sound better, from 100% to 200%.

But learning about basics wont hurt.

Instead of spending countless hours searching on internet for tutorials (fuck tutorials, never follow someone else guide, because every song is different and requires different approach in the mixing process) but i can recommend you one real good book
its called "Mixing with your mind"
      Download here: http://rapidshare.com/files/192735906/MWYM.rar
Its all well-explained and everything is covered there.

Im not promoter of piracy, but for free/learning purposes what can u do

I can recommend you few pluggins that you can install and use with FL Studio:

Waves SSL Bundle * (This is virtual emulation of World Class A British mixing console, the SSL 4000, it was used on more records then all other mixing consoles combined, this virtual plugin emulation of the real thing aint the same as the real thing, but its best you can get in digital world, since analog hardware costs big money... You may want to rent some good studio for about 50$ per hour and ask some assistant in studio to show you the all good stuff there and explain everything to you in person, and get some professioanl mix done there)
URS Bundle (comes with compressors, eqs, etc)
Softube CL1B (great remake of original hardware Softech CL1B tube compressor)
Lexicon PCM Native Reverb (great emulation of original hardware reverb)

You can get all that from filestube.com, just search for it.

        thanks man

i will most likely stick with FL Studio just because i've been using it since FL Studio 3 was the new thing.

And as for those plug ins u mentioned i will dl them and install them but im not sure what to do with them

i know u can assign plug ins to each track on the mixer but what i don't understand is tweaking the knobs.

P.S. I have my own studio. it aint much but im still saving up for the best equipment.

I've been making beatz for about 8 to 10 years not exactly sure how long but a long ass time.
        you feel me

Oh and im very independent meaning i wanna be the only one who touches my beatz. I want to learn the ins and outs of beat making Producing Engineering and marketing (selling them)

I guess what im trying to say is that im just 1 man trying to do it all by myself.

but thanks for your help man i greatly appreciate you time man

        do u make beatz yourself?

You dont need to be signed to rent some studio for a few hours, Where you from? i can probably recommend you few good studios in your area.

Right now Investing money in gear you dont know how to use is not good idea. expect buying good soundcard and studio speakers (they are called monitors).

Stick with FL and experiment with pluggins.

in waves ssl bundle theres plugin called SSL Channel, thats parametric eq with dynamic compressor and gate on it
then you have waves stereo compressor, which is master-buss compressor, you use it on master channel (make sure u learn how compressor WORKS)
lexicon revreb or any other effect processor, place on AUX channel, then send for example snare or clap to AUX 1, and everything else that needs reverberation, goes to AUX1 , instead of placing it on every channel and wasting CPU and RAM memory.

but i mainly use heapdphones cuz i dont wanna disturb or get a noise complain from any1

i downloaded a couple of those plugins and installd them as well

oh yeah how do i assign that plugin u mentioned on an AUX track? and then how would i assign the different tracks to that AUX?
