You need de-esser. Go try waves plugin for example RDeEsser. Remember to use option "side chain" there. Then u can hear only when sssssss szzzz etc comes out to much and remember to cut just high freq not all audio with that. Just check "mode" should be split. If quality is good enough then ssss etc will comes around 7.xxxx >.

Before de-esser, use EQ to cut down few dbs around 5khz or 7khz
then use deesser, which is automated eq that activates on specific frequency range, be careful not to over do it.

i 50/50 agree. If the vocal is muddy then u can't cut there with eq bcoz you will make it worst, but if the vocal is brighter then go for it, but be careful.

doesn't matter if you use razor sharp-cut only at specific frequency (7k for example) it wont get muddy, if it gets, then boost 16khz, to brighten up and boost up presence of vocal without making thing sound harsh agan.
7khz area is where sibilants occur

he can also use saturation/tape emulation plugins to tame harsh frequencies.

software de-essers usually fucks up whole vocal range, its always better to have manual control over mixing, and thats why EQing it first is always 1st choice, then place de-esser after to tame some harsh peaks

It all depends on what type audio we workin on. Can't disagree with that.
Eq is always before de-esser. If u don't know how de-esser works then u will fuck it up.
