Whoever wrote that article hit the nail right on the head,

If only I threw a dollar in a jar for every time I heard some wack rapper say "I'm different to the 100,000 rappers out there", or "I'm gonna blow up and change the game"

"And oversampling of "insert random 70s/80s pop song" turned chipmunked (You know what I mean, like on Dont Stop The Music OG) every fucking underground hip hop song I hear has that shit in the beat. So fucking wack.

I mostly agree. Like anything, very few people are millionaires. Rappers should aspire to be able to quit their day job and do music full-time. Any musician - any real musician - will tell you that is the real dream. Not some punk with a laptop mic and casio keyboard from toys-r-us. Do these kids think that every author is Stephen King or J.K. Rowling? of course not. Does that mean every other writer out there is shit? Ah they probably don't read books anyways. Also making good music, that should be the other big goal.

I always wished there was a stronger DIY community aspect to hip-hop with a genuine desire to help each other out that you'll find in other forms of independent music but its not the same. Sure you have udnerground rappers and promoters etc. but compare that scene on a similar scale in a city with say punk rock, hardcore, indie rock, various metal subgenres? the community isn't anywhere near there. There isn't a lot of money in those scenes either but there are bands that sustain themselves on an underground level in such a fashion that they can buy their own homes and put food on the table or even continue to hone their craft while *GASP* earn an education or get a normal job and do the music stuff on the side.

maybe that material is something similar to what i was searching for since ages.

i made several topics about it but nobody could/would answer.

i wanted to know what the stages are between recording music (well, professionally, not amatuer, but still underground) to signing and releasing an album.

who decides what songs will be put on the album, how many songs, what songs will be singles, what songs will eventually chart, why is good material not getting released, why sign artists and don´t release their shxt?why not let the off the contract if they release no music?etc. in short: the a-z 411 on music politics.

so i come to the conclusion that the success (mainstream or underground) depends on particular individuals, not about the music itself or the recording artists.

if someone in a suit & glasses who has no idea about hip-hop decides that the product will attract the masses, then it will be released and pushed but if not, then you get shelved.

i can´t formulate the question/s properly, because its too much to cover up but i hope yall get the picture what i´m trying to find out.

anyone who could help gets a rep
