Compressing Vocals?

What sort of plugin's help me do that, and what sort of settings should I use?

Acapellas like Temptations and Black Cotton, where the vocal's go low, then stupidly high.

Please don't use compression. Compressors are for kids. Leave transients big and healthy.

Just use automation to level out the louder parts.

i actually used the compressor in audacity... lol.. as lame as it is.. it still works pretty good with compressing...

There are no good compressors, even most expensive hardware ones like Fairchild 660 are destructive to the audio and kills the energy and excitement of music.
